Reporting a Bias Incident

Procedure for Reporting a Bias Incident

A bias incident is an act of bigotry, harassment or intimidation – verbal, written or physical – which is personally directed against or targets a student at the University because of that student’s race, age, color, disability, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, religion, gender, gender identity, pregnancy, sexual orientation, or veteran status. The University maintains a Bias Incident Reporting Team (BIRT) to assist students who report bias incidents.

Students who experience a bias incident are encouraged to complete the Bias Incident Report Form available on the Office of Multicultural Affairs website.

Once the form is received, a member of the Bias Incident Response Team will review the information and take appropriate action, which may or may not include contacting the student and others identifed by the student in the report.

Visit the Office of Multicultural Affairs website for a more complete discussion of the procedure for reporting bias incidents and on the role of the Bias Incident Reporting Team in responding to such reports.
